Additional Programs

Koorie Education

All units planned by Mickleham Primary School staff include experiences and text that recognise relevant indigenous elements.

Through work done by some of our Leadership Team, we have built a relationship with Craigieburn Secondary College to engage in activities related to Koorie education, including NAIDOC Week. Both schools have established Koorie Action Teams (KAT) to assist with planning and conducting special joint events.

The Mickleham Primary School KAT met with staff and parents to plan future activities. Parent members of this team have requested that the Koorie model we develop be applied to all cultures represented at our school.

Sustainability

At Mickleham Primary School, we understand that sustainable patterns of living meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Sustainability addresses the ongoing capacity of the Earth to maintain all life and the necessary actions/endeavours to improve outcomes, for individuals, as well as local and global communities.

Education for sustainability develops the knowledge, skills, values and world-views necessary for people to act in ways that contribute to more enduring patterns of living. It enables individuals and communities to reflect on ways of interpreting and engaging with the world. Sustainability education is future-oriented, focusing on protecting environments and creating a more ecologically and socially just world through informed action.

In 2024 we have added two student School Environment Leaders to help promote student-driven programs and activities across the school.
